What’s the Craic?

My name is Paul.

I’m taking housing into my own hands.

Before the pandemic I was gearing up to buy a house. I’d worked in event management for over a decade, and was finally in a financial position to get a mortgage.

Then the world changed.

Cue global pandemic.

Long unhappy with the idea of a mortgage, I’m now seizing the opportunity to try a radical alternative.

Enter the Tiny House.

I believe tiny houses are a realistic and appealing answer to the housing and climate crises. I’m going to design, build and then live in a tiny house for a year, showing you how & why as I go.

It could go terribly, it could go swimmingly.

Either way, I’ll let you know.

Then what happened?

Three winters and two summers later…

I’ve lived in the Tiny House since September 2021. I moved in when it was a shell and have been fitting it out, little by little, since.

I learned a lot…

…about living off grid with solar, fitting out tiny spaces for optimum living, air tightness and humidity control, timber joinery, home maintenance, human centric design, multiplicity of function and a whole heap more, but most importantly I’ve learned whether or not tiny living is any good. Luckily for me, the answer is a resounding yes.

Now I’m ready to share this knowledge

Now that I know, first hand, that tiny living is great and how best to achieve it, I’m excited to share what I’ve learned through informal, in-person build courses here in Cloughjordan Eco Village.
